All is well that ends well??? Saints recap

As a Saints fan I should take the win and be happy. I am not completely happy right now. I think the problems can be fixed and the Saints were a little rusty. The Vikings have a great defense, but we lost a possible touchdown and two field goals.

Still it was nice to watch football and see my team for the first game of the season. I believe once we get in the groove we will be alright.

Pierre Thomas and Devery Henderson got more points that Yahoo predicted so I am going to bed in a good mood. Jared Allen did not do much tonight, but he will get his sacks and tackles so I am not worried.

It is too early to tell how I will do this week.I need to look at injury reports on Saturday and Sunday to make sure all my guys are starting.

Week 1, Team 1 - Slugga Boyz vs Black Mamba - Who has the edge

This is what I call Team 1. I am the Slugga Boyz. (Warhammer 40k fans can relate). I am giong up against Black Mamba. Who has the edge?

FTW!!!

7:54 - Can't wait for kickoff

I am wearing the same outfit I wore when the Saints won the SuperBowl. I am ready to go. I have the lineup in for one of my teams.

It is time for football. TTYL

Team 3 - This is for straight cash homey

This is the big league for me. You have to play 3 defensive positions. I do not believe I drafted well at all with the #3 pick. It was not my best day as you will see.

Keurig K-Kop

QBs - Carson Palmer, Alex Smith
RBs - Ray Rice, Kareem Huggins, Marion Barber
WRs - Dwayne Bowe, Randy Moss, Kenny Brit, Devin Hester, Devery Henderson - See a pattern here?
TEs - Dallas Clark, Zach Miller - Love my TEs
K - Stephen Gostkowski
DL - Jared Allen
DB - Darelle Revis - By week 3 we will if this was a good pick
D - Mike Vrabel

The biggest mistake I made was drafting Elvis Dumervil instead of Antoine Winfield. I did not check injuries and drafted a player who was on INJURED RESERVE!!! I was really mad at myself for making such a noob mistake. I got Malcom Jenkins and picked up Mike Vrabel today. I got some work to do to be competitive.

Team 2 - Hammer S

This is the second team I own this year. This is the first year for this league. A bunch of my colleagues are playing. 10 teams, with a reasonable entry fee to play.

Hammer S

QBs = Carson Palmer, Aaron Rodgers - Talk about a tale of 2 QBs
RBs -  Kareem Huggins, Cedric Benson, Marion Barber, Pierre Thomas, Willis McGahee
WRs - Jacoby Jones, Patrick Crayton, Devery Henderson, Percy Harvin - No stud WRs
TE - Dallas Clark and Zach Miller - Yes they are on my other teams and yes I like it that way
K - Jay Feely - Dude was money last year, and money is what I am playing for here in this league.
DEF- Tennessee and Minnesota

I got enough RBs to mix and match until I find something I like. I would say that my WRs are not the best and I will be working the waiver wire heavy with this team.

Free Team 1 - Slugga Boyz

Here is my team the Slugga Boyz. This is a free league that I have been a part of for a while This league is extremely competitive with 10 teams. This is what I got with the 5th pick in the draft
  • QBs - Eli Manning, Kevin Kolb, Matt Cassel
  • RBs - Chris Johnson, Frank Gore, Jerome Harrison - I love my running backs
  • WRs - Greg Jennings, Devery Henderson, Devin Hester, Eddie Royal, Patrick Crayton
  • TEs - Dallas Clark, Zach Miller - I really like my TEs.
  • K - Stephen Gostkowski
  • DEF - Minnesota
I would like to see my WRs get a little better. I am hoping for consistent production from Patrick Crayton. He gives San Diego a legitimate short yardage and end zone receiver.

I don't know about my starting lineup yet. I have to get cracking because this league locks at kick off tomorrow night. I think running backs are pretty easy, I don't know about my wide receivers though.

Know what you play for......

Today I was asked about playing fantasy football for money.

This is what I think about playing for free or for money. If you are playing for money then it is no longer a friendly game and players should treat this as a serious hobby or part time job. If you are playing for free then you should make your best effort every week to do well. You are disrespecting the other owners if you fail to put in the effort (Lineups, responding to trade requests, trash talk, etc.).

I could go on about the virtures of both types of play. I believe you need to know why you are playing and give it your best shot. Sometimes you zig where you should have zagged and you get burned. Sometimes a roster add gets you big points.

I think this is a as simple as I could put it on this subject. I want to post my teams later and I am thinking about my Saints tomorrow night. Flipping a thick stack, BWL

Well..... That could have gone better

My worst draft ever. I got some good players, but I made a rookie mistake and drafted Elvis Dumervil (Broncos) I did not look this morning to see his status and he is out for the YEAR! I hate it when I don't make the extra time to measure twice.

I took Ray Rice in the first round, and I got Carson Palmer, Jared Allen, Stephen Gostkowski, Randy Moss and D Revis. I need to beef up at running back and hope I was right with my 3rd pick.

Still I have alot of work to do if I am going to do better than I did last year. What can I do in 48 hours?

Lineups and Draft

I am putting together my lineups for two of my leagues and I have a draft tomorrow.

I am still looking at last minute trades and drops so I have not nailed down who is starting. I can tell you that some of my selections are not going to be considered "sexy" picks.

I am picking #3 in the draft so I am pretty sure I am going with Ray Rice for my 3rd pick. I know Michael Butler and Maurice Jones Drew are ranked higher depending upon which mock draft you look at; however, with Donte Stallworth hurt I feel Ray Rice will be used to catch passes out of the backfield.

Since I can not attend, I am making my list that I will submit to the Commissioner (He who is most wise) today. Here is a snapshot of where I am going.

I will update tomorrow on how I did. It is one day closer to Thursday night when I will be blogging live during the Saints/Vikings Game. GEAUX SAINTS!

Musing and other stuff

Just some stuff I saw during two of my drafts and watching sports news.

  • Draft 1 - How did I get Chris Johnson with the 5th pick in the Ist round?
  • Draft 2 - Technology is great - I thought about pen and paper drafts and selected Aaron Rogers with the 5th pick in the Ist round. I did not want to go back...
  • Should I take Ray Rick or Maurice Jones-Drew with the 3rd pick in the Ist round in my last draft on Tuesday?
  • My wife's Droid. This is my new best friend as I was able to drop a receiver and pick up one in NH yesterday for 2 of my leagues.
  • Which LSU team will I see this year? Hopefully it is the one from the first half of last night's game vs the TarHeels.
  • Making sure all my Saints stuff is ready to go on Thursday.
I am going to kick of this year's blog officially tomorrow. I will let you know how my fantasy teams are doing and what I think of the games and news.
